The Chapel of Memories is an iconic structure on the campus of Mississippi State University in Starkville, MS. Completed in 1965, it has been used extensively for weddings, funerals, receptions, meditation, and worship services for various religious groups on campus. Its design has been widely acclaimed for a successful blending of neo-gothic elements with contemporary architectural features, and for intricate detailing of brick in the building itself, as well as in the courtyard and carillon tower. It is especially noteworthy that all brick used was salvaged from “Old Main”, a large and infamous dormitory which burned to the ground in 1959. It became the inspiration for the creation of an interdenominational chapel to remember the symbolic building and the memories associated with it. In 1996, the project was honored with the coveted and prestigious 25 Year Award by the MS Chapter of The American Institute of Architects for its design quality.
