The renovation and addition to the elegant E.T. Woolfolk State Office Building resolves deficiencies in the aged structure, plus provides additional space for a number of growing agencies and departments. The project, located immediately to the west of the State Capitol Building, contains 259,000 SF of renovated space, 152,000 SF of new office space, a new 334 car garage and a new central mechanical plant. The addition, which is located on the west side, or rear, of the facility, leaving the circa 1949 east entrance façade intact, acknowledges the original building’s simplified massing, window shapes, and limestone veneer. The iconic magnolia panels of the original structure, however, were intentionally modified in the addition to demarcate the old from the new.
