This new facility replaced the Hancock County Health and Human Services building that was destroyed during Hurricane Katrina. The project was funded from multiple sources, primarily from Federal Katrina Supplemental CDBG Funds and FEMA as part of the statewide disaster recovery.
This two-story, 25,493 SF building houses three separate county agencies. With a limited budget, the challenge was to design an attractive building which functions well for the numerous user groups, all having very different requirements. The building’s exterior envelope and all of its components were designed to withstand a hurricane and be impact resistant. The building’s communications and access control integrate seamlessly with all of the countywide systems implemented.
