This two-story Administration Building is sited on an open lawn area at the southern portion of the campus. The 24,000 SF structure works to redefine the center of the campus. The exterior design reinforces the contextual fabric by reflecting some of the architectural forms and materials already inherent to the existing campus while at the same time elevating the new building’s progressive presence as a new campus identity for the public. The building is comprised of six programmatic functional needs, including a bookstore, business office, admissions and records, financial aid, institutional research suite and a new presidential suite. In addition to the main functions, a boardroom with a kitchen prep area is provided for monthly college administrative meetings. Through careful studies and considerations the program established a fresh and efficient use of space while taking advantage of natural light and other sustainable design features throughout the building. Exterior spaces were created to encourage people to interact with one another and experience another feature of the building. The business office and bookstore branch off of the main building mass as one-story wings to create an exterior courtyard, which encourages student interaction between classes. Also, four exterior terraces on the second floor provide outdoor gathering spaces for administration staff, board members and the president.
